Meet Pastor Don
Donald Wesley Hamilton, named after John Wesley, likes to be called Don.
I was born in Chickasha, OK, grew up through high school in Seymour, Texas. I went to McMurry College, a Methodist school, in Abilene, Texas for undergraduate studies. After graduation, Nancy and I were married in the Methodist Church in her home town, Chillicothe, Texas (1958). She completed her college degree while I was teaching the 6th grade.
We moved to Dallas where I attended Perkins School of Theology, a part of Southern Methodist University. Following graduation in 1962, we moved to Montana to serve the Hardin Methodist Church. After 4 years, I was appointed to the Christ United Methodist Church in Great Falls where I served for 6 years. In 1972, I was appointed to the Miles City United Methodist Church. I served there for 18 years. During that time, I completed a Dr. of Ministry degree at the San Francisco Theological Seminary. In 1990, I was appointed senior pastor of the Bozeman United Methodist Church. I served there until I retired in 1998.
Following my retirement, we began our serious and intentional travel schedule, and we have enjoyed traveling to many places over these 19 years. I have also “unretired” a number of times. I served on the pastoral staff of the large, urban, Protestant American Church in Paris for just over a year and a half. I preached numerous times in various churches in the conference when needed (including Roberts UMC). I served a short interim at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Billings and a year-long interim at the Red Lodge Community Church.
During these 54 years in Montana, Nancy was a public-school teacher, both in Great Falls and Miles City. Previously, she taught in Irving, Texas while I was studying at Perkins. She retired after 25 years of teaching.
We have 2 daughters, Cristi and Karen. We certainly enjoyed them as they were growing up. Cristi married Jeff Hunnes, also from Miles City. Trevor, Alex, and Synnove are their children. Trevor is a student at Rocky; Alex and Synnove are both in high school. Cristi is a professor at Rocky Mountain College; Jeff is an attorney in Billings. Karen and Greg Kiehl met at college, both studying music at the Music Conservatory at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. Greg was from Wisconsin, and that is where they have lived since their marriage, and they both teach music in the public-schools in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. They have two children, Chris and Maddie. They are both in university studies.
